Craving an unexpected gem amidst the Alps? Let me take you to Camping La Recorbaz, a hidden treasure nestled between Faverges and the Tamié Abbey. After a day of driving and exploring the surroundings, stumbling upon this place felt like a breath of fresh air. Locals here don’t measure distances in kilometers, but in time taken to reach the nearby towns and villages. I slightly underestimated this, and after an exhausting day, we were looking for little more than a warm shower.
Upon arrival, the campsite seemed rather simple and rural, but any doubts vanished quickly once we stepped under the shower. The water wasn’t just warm but could be adjusted to be very hot and soothing. Moreover, all the amenities turned out to be available. The tranquility reigning here was extraordinary, and in the mornings, you’re greeted with a peaceful view that immediately puts you in a relaxed mood.
Set amidst the surrounding mountains in the Massif des Bauges Regional Natural Park, the location is breathtaking. With some shaded camping spots spread across 8000m², you get to experience a vacation in harmony with nature. Sanitary facilities with showers, sinks, toilets, and an outdoor water point are available, leaving you wanting for nothing.
The price? It was ridiculously low or perhaps just rightly fair. For those seeking an authentic experience away from the hustle, Camping La Recorbaz is a hidden gem not to be missed. Here, you live the true outdoors life in the shadow of the majestic Alps, just a stone’s throw away from the enchanting Lake Annecy

Route de Montmin
In the video here (under), I’m showing a segment of Route de Montmin in Talloires, starting from the D42 Col de La Forclaz and ending in the narrow streets of the picturesque village of Vesonne. The Route de Montmin is less steep than the Col de la Forclaz, as it’s a mountain pass located in the French Alps, specifically in the Haute-Savoie department. This pass stands at an altitude of 1157 meters and is situated between the Forclaz and the Le Collet. From the pass, there’s a view of the nearby La Tournette, towering at 2351 meters, and the Lake of Annecy, where my journey concluded in the village of Talloires, nestled on the shores of Lake Annecy. The Route de Montmin connects from here.
Compared to the D42, the Route de Montmin is a much quieter road and suitable for cars with limited power. It’s a popular destination for hikers and cyclists, so caution is advised as you might unexpectedly encounter cyclists or active hikers around each turn. The road traverses through a beautiful forested area, offering views of Lake Annecy and the surrounding mountains.
Important note: The D42 is a busy road, especially during the summer months. It’s well-maintained with an asphalt surface. However, it is steep and requires caution while driving.
